Information for solicitors and other agencies

We appreciate how busy solicitors and other referring agencies are and we are happy to receive referrals by whichever  method is easiest for you. Simply complete our online referral form or alternatively download and complete the form below which can then be emailed, faxed or posted to us. We are also happy to take your referral by phone.

We have an LSC contract to provide free publically funded mediation to those eligible and would be pleased to receive any funding code referrals. Clients and former partners of clients, referred under the funding code, will not be charged for a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM), whether held separately or together. We are also authorised to issue the FM1 now required under the Pre-court Application Protocol.

With our main offices in Hatfield and a number of other conveniently located outposts in Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Hoddesdon, St Albans, and Luton, we are able to offer appointments to clients throughout Hertfordshire and South Bedfordshire.

Whenever you make a referral to us:

• We will acknowledge your referral as soon as it is received.
• We write to or telephone clients within 2 days to see if they are willing to attend an Information and Assessment Meeting and aim to offer available appointments within a week.
• We will let you know whether clients will be attending an Information Meeting and then, after the meeting, whether the case is to proceed to mediation. We will then report back to you, with the clients’ permission, as necessary and appropriate, as mediation proceeds.
• We encourage clients at any stage of mediation to consult with their solicitors or take other forms of professional advice when this would be appropriate. In cases concerning property and finance and often in cases concerning child issues, we strongly recommend that legal advice is taken on options being considered, prior to final agreements being reached and documents drawn up.
• CLS APP7 forms will be completed and returned to you promptly on case closure.
• Clients are also advised that if they wish their agreements to be turned into a legally binding order, they will need their solicitor to arrange this.
• Our aim throughout the process is to provide a professional, efficient service which will optimally benefit clients and referring solicitors or agencies.

We produce a referral pack for solicitors and other agencies and can also supply leaflets which introduce clients to mediation and our service. Please request either of these via our contact us form. If you have already received copies of our leaflets and would like more, these can also be re-ordered via our contact us form, by phone, fax or email. Please provide details of your organisation and the quantity required.

Headway Family Mediation also provide a range of other services for children and parents that may be of help to support your clients, including Child Consultation or Advocacy and Child Counselling.

We wish to work closely with solicitors and other agencies and would welcome any feedback or suggestions from you. Members of our mediation team would be very pleased to visit you in person to discuss our services and how we can support and assist clients, solicitors and other agencies. Please contact us to arrange a visit. We also maintain a database of local solicitors who are familiar with, and able to offer advice in relation to, mediated settlements. If you feel that your firm meets this criteria, and you have not already done so, please contact us so that we can add your firm to our database.
